# Manage your hive

Every hive has one **owner** and any number of **admins**. From **My Hives**, open the
**...** menu on a hive tile for **Leave** and **Transfer**; the owner-only **Delete**
lives inside the hive's own **Dashboard**, under a red "Danger zone". These actions are
deliberately careful - deleting a hive asks you to type its name to confirm.

## Transfer a hive

Only the **owner** can transfer a hive, and only to:

- **another admin of the hive** - they receive a request and must **accept** it before
  ownership moves; or
- **one of your organisations** - applied immediately, so the organisation's plan,
  members and storage take over.

If the person you have in mind is not listed, it is because a hive can only be handed to
an existing **admin**. **Invite them to the hive as an admin first** (see
[People and invitations](/en/people-and-invitations/)), then transfer - or transfer to
an organisation you administer.

Incoming transfer requests appear in **Invitations**, where you accept or decline them.

## Leave a hive

**Leave hive** removes you from the hive: you lose access to it and its contents, while
the hive and everyone else stay. You can be invited back later.

The **owner cannot leave** - a hive always needs an owner. If you own it, SweetHive
explains this and offers to **transfer** it instead. Hand ownership to another admin (or
delete the hive) first, then you can leave.

## Delete a hive

Deleting a hive removes **everything** in it - every context, message, file and
membership - for **everyone**. Only the **owner** can do it, from the hive
**Dashboard → Danger zone → Delete this hive**. To prevent mistakes you must **type the
hive's name** to confirm.

Deletion is **not immediate**. It runs with a **30-day grace period**:

- the hive is **locked read-only** straight away - no new messages or invitations;
- **every admin is emailed** and **every member is notified** in the app;
- during those 30 days **any admin can cancel** the deletion - from the read-only banner
  on the hive, or from the link in the email (no sign-in needed);
- after 30 days the hive and all its content are **permanently deleted**. This cannot be
  undone.

> **Changed your mind?** While the hive is scheduled, open it and use **Cancel deletion**
> on the banner, or click the cancel link in the email. The hive becomes active again
> right away.
